MotoV8 was started back in 2001 with the aim of reaching out to young people and help inspire them, in particular children and young people at risk of falling outside mainstream services, anti-social behaviour, crime and social exclusion. We take an early intervention approach and assist those who require a ‘hand up’ in their lives and not a ‘hand out’.
We recognise that anyone at any point in their life can find themselves in a difficult place, needing someone to help them get back on their feet and make positive choices. Through our outreach programmes we engage with these young people and their families on an individual basis, nurturing their talents and abilities to promote positive engagement within their communities.
With 1:1 mentoring and group work we support the young person through role play, confidence building and educational activities to promote their skills for life and the acquisition of basic qualifications. This can involve direct education, signposting to appropriate services and generic support.
Through collaboration with mainstream services, education services, local authorities and other charitable organisations we facilitate community events and run groups to promote community integration, education and engagement for young people and their families.
By working in these varied ways we can tailor our interventions based on the needs of individuals and their communities recognising that everyone and every community is unique. To date, the development of our youth work, crime reduction and complementary education provision has succeeded in engaging and working with significant numbers of disaffected children and young people with positive results.
